DUCSU VP Sadik Kayem calls for 'Insaaf' oriented Bangladesh
On the final working day of the DUCSU Dhaka University Central students’ Union that has completed a year of its term, DUCSU Vice President (VP)
Sadik Kayem called for building a 'Insaaf' (just) oriented Bangladesh.
The DUCSU VP said in a statement on Wednesday (9 September) that they have made progress during the term, and brought a lot of changes in the university.
In the statement, he said that today is the one-year anniversary of the student union body election that took place in a democratic manner with the aspirations of the July Revolution.
“We have taken over the responsibility of Dhaka University with the sincere efforts of our activists, well-wishers at home and abroad, and the wholehearted support of the general students,” he said.
Talking about the achievements, he said today they could say with pride that they have responded to every single demand of the students in spite of the hurdles and obstacles created by different political parties.
At the same time, DUCSU has always stood by the demands of the students and people of the country.
“We brought a permanent change to Dhaka University by ending the long-dated ‘ganaroom’ and ‘guestroom’ culture, and ensured peace and stability in the campus,” he said.
The DUCSU VP also said that efforts are being made to bring good changes in the transportation system, promote higher education and research culture, create employment opportunities through skill development, provide adequate health services, and improve the overall residential campus life.
“DUCSU showed the students and people of this country that students’ union stands for service and sacrifice, not suppression; representation, not domination; freedom, not fear,” he said.
He hoped that through regular student union elections and positive changes, a “just Bangladesh” will be built.
In the end, the DUCSU VP expressed his sincere gratitude to the people of the country and students of Dhaka University for standing by the student union in its effort to create a democratic and students’ friendly campus.
